TDR PRO Corrugated Polypropylene Pipe Sam’s Club Weslaco, Weslaco, TX

Corrugated Polypropylene Pipe Weslaco — Sam’s Club, TX
TDR Pipe supplied TDR PRO® corrugated polypropylene pipe in Weslaco, Texas for the storm drainage system at Sam’s Club Weslaco, a $46.5M retail development. TDR provided 18-inch through 48-inch pipe totaling 89,600 linear feet to manage runoff from the store’s roof, parking, and service areas.
Project overview
Sam’s Club Weslaco is a $46.5 million retail project delivering a 164,000 sq ft membership store at Barbee Drive and FM 1015. The development brings more than 200 permanent jobs and sustained daily traffic that demands consistent site performance from day one. For a high-traffic retail asset like this, drainage is not just code compliance—it directly protects customer access, parking circulation, and the pavement investment, all of which have to work flawlessly the moment the store opens.
The Challenge: Retail Runoff Profile
A single large roof area, combined with expansive parking and service drives, produces high-volume, fast-release runoff. Flat grades and local soil conditions make ponding risk especially sensitive at entrances, main aisles, and pedestrian routes—exactly the areas where standing water would most affect customers and operations. The drainage system therefore had to move large combined flows quickly and reliably while performing on minimal slopes and standing up to constant vehicle loading.
The TDR PRO® Corrugated Polypropylene Pipe Solution
Corrugated polypropylene TDR PRO® pipe was selected as the primary underground conveyance to move combined roof and pavement flows efficiently toward downstream collection and detention, while supporting loads beneath high-traffic parking and service areas. The network was scaled for retail peak runoff: smaller laterals collected localized surface flow, while larger mains carried the combined roof and paved-area discharge. The dual-wall design with a smooth interior supported the low-slope hydraulics the flat site required, and gasketed joints maintained system integrity under large paved sections subject to heavy, repetitive loading.
Build Sequence Benefit
Storm lines were installed early—ahead of final paving—so primary drainage paths were active during construction. This reduced weather interruptions and helped lock in final grading without later drainage rework. For a retail project on fixed launch timing, getting the drainage in early removed a major source of schedule risk.
Results and Schedule Impact
Rain events did not create ponding in key parking aisles, pedestrian paths, or loading zones. Access stayed functional and paved areas avoided water-related distress, reducing the chance of post-opening corrective work. Reliable drainage performance supported opening readiness by protecting access and circulation under wet conditions—critical for a high-traffic retail asset operating on a fixed launch date.
About TDR PRO® Corrugated Polypropylene Pipe
TDR PRO® is a dual-wall corrugated polypropylene pipe Weslaco engineered for gravity-flow stormwater drainage. It combines a smooth interior liner for hydraulic efficiency with a reinforced, annular corrugated exterior and a co-extruded integrated bell for watertight joints. Available in 12-inch through 60-inch diameters, TDR PRO® meets ASTM F2881 Class I and AASHTO M330 Type S, with watertight joints tested per ASTM D3212—making it well suited to commercial, residential, and infrastructure drainage projects across Texas
