This project consists of a $3.7 million retail development for a new Kohl’s store in the Cinco Ranch area of Katy, Texas—one of the fastest-growing suburban markets in the Houston metropolitan region. The development includes a standalone retail building, parking areas, and supporting site infrastructure, all requiring efficient stormwater management to ensure operational reliability and customer accessibility. The Challenge: Runoff from Large Retail Surfaces
The site’s large paved parking areas generate concentrated runoff that has to be conveyed efficiently away from retail access points. Suburban drainage requirements, a tight commercial construction schedule, and the need to comply with local drainage standards all had to be balanced at once. The system needed to manage runoff from expansive parking surfaces, prevent ponding near entrances and pedestrian routes, and stay on schedule so the store could open on time.
